Belvedere
Belvedere, CA
A substantial addition and comprehensive gut remodel, the Belvedere project reimagines an original Cliff May mid-century modern modular home. The primary design objective was to respectfully elevate the home's mid-century vernacular while resolving areas where the original architecture fell short of its site's potential.
Situated on a steep, west-facing slope in Tiburon, the property offers uninterrupted, panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and the city skyline beyond. However, the original structure's restrictive 7'-2" wall heights and insular orientation failed to capitalize on this extraordinary vantage point.
By working symbiotically with the existing framework whenever possible, the redesign dramatically opens the house to the bay. Expanded volumes and reoriented sightlines now invite the natural beauty of the coast inward, ensuring the sweeping vistas can be experienced from every room in the house.
